What does knock sensor update do

2017 Kia Sportage bought used from carmax, approx 70k miles knock sensor replacement

Hey Scotty,

The kia sportage broke down once, oil was changed and it ran for approx 5k more miles.  Oil light came back on and we noticed the dipstick burnt.  We continually checked and topped off oil every 5-600 miles as the level would continually drop.

Couple months of topping off later, the sportage loses power and we drive home slowly(max, 30 mph).  Shutter at acceleration from stop and loses power.  Carmax takes it in and sends to Kia to replace knock sensor and do "software update."

My question is, does the knock sensor replacement/update do anything?  We're requesting another oil consumption test and dread breaking down again before they finally just replace the engine under the 100k Kia warranty.

Thanks for all You do!

  • Well that's basically a way they're trying to keep from having to replace engines. They build poorly by making the ignition be more retarded so it doesn't have as much power and doesn't have a tendency awaren engine out as fast. They just trying to cover their own asses so they don't have to replace engines that they made poorly basically
