Plz help, I'm desperate for an answer
I have a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis
It's always choking when stopped, idling, shifting gears. All I hear is vrrrRrRRRrRmmm none stop. Especially when I put it in park or neutral. I've had it for 8 years and it's been doing this for 3 years now. I keep taking it to mechanics and they all say it's fine. It clearly is not and I'm furious with everyone I've taken it too. I know how this car should feel and I'm 100% losing power. The exhaust smells more potent as well. There is a crack in the end piece of the exhaust if this means anything as just extra information.
It is incredibly upsetting and I don't know where else to go. It just seems like mechanics today don't want anything to do with it unless it's as simple as brakes or oil
I'm going to try and clean the throttle area soon in hopes I get some result but in the meantime, if there's any person who has any experience that can help me figure this out, I would gladly bow my head to as I can't take it anymore

After 40 years almost anything could be wrong with it. You cannot ignore the possibility of a worn engine. (You did not state mileage, but even with low miles, poor maintenance any time during the last 4 decades could have resulted in excessive wear.)
You did not mention what engine you have. The 302 V8 is equipped with fuel injection. The 351 V8 has a carburetor. Troubleshooting can potentially be different between the two.
What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Checked for vacuum leaks? (Are the vacuum hoses 40 years old and falling apart?) What do you mean the exhaust is "more potent"? Does it smell like excess gasoline, or oil? Is there soot or oil residue in the tailpipe?
