Hello everyone, I have a 2017 Ford Mustang with the 5 liter V8 and 6 speed manual transmission. It’s has 10,700 miles on it and I noticed that the oil level was pretty low when I changed it the other day. It takes 8 quarts of oil and I got less than 7 out of it. Drain plug and oil filter were clean and I didn’t see any signs of leaks under the hood. Seems to run just fine. No strange noises or smoking or anything out of the ordinary. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and use full synthetic. It wasn’t low on oil the other two times I changed it. Any ideas on why it could be using so much?
@Mod_Man might have seen this issue and be able to give you better insight.
Do the dry and wet compression test on cylinders.
Compression test it as @yaser said. The 3rd Gen 5.0L engines eat oil like no tomorrow, and you're at the end of the 2nd Gen. Keep track of it and make sure it doesn't dip too low between changes. As cheap as PCV valves are, you may as well replace that too. Unfortunately oil consumption is extremely common on the Coyote V8's.
Nope they don't. Ever since they went to plasma lined cylinder walls instead of traditional metal sleeves, they have had nothing but problems.
Changing full synthetic every 3000 miles is a waste of money. Go at least 5000. Some cars use oil. With that low mileage, it shouldn't. But certain engines are famous for oil use. Check the pcv valve. Might pull a spark plug or two to see if it's burning oil or not.
