I have a 2017 VW Golf Sportwagen, AWD, automatic transmission, 70k miles that recently went into limp mode with the warning “Transmission in Emergency Mode. Reverse not available.” The warning has happened twice now, but both times I was able to turn off the car and when it was turned back on the warning was cleared and the car drove like normal. I took the car into my dealer and they found the code P0607 Control Module Performance - Transmission Electronics. The dealer was not able to identify the cause of the issue, and due to that they are recommending I replace both the transmission and mechatronics unit. From what I’ve read about this code, it seems like it is more related to electronics than anything mechanical, so I’m having a hard time with the idea of replacing the entire transmission. The car still shifts well and there is no grinding or jumping that I’ve noticed. The dealer test drove the car and also did not notice anything wrong with the driving performance.
Do you have any recommendations for next steps here? I’m thinking I will replace my battery as it is running a little low to see if that does anything. I had my serpentine belt replaced recently and double checked that it was installed properly. The alternator also appears to be working well.
Well try the battery and pray a lot. Those folks wagons are so complex needing a Volkswagen specialist to work on those things with a very expensive Volkswagen scan tool. One reason I tell people not to buy them
Thanks Scotty. You don’t happen to have a recommendation for a shop in the Denver area do you? No worries if not, I just figured I’d ask.
