2018 Ford XL 2.7L- Buy or Not?

Hello everyone, my 2007 F-150 with the 5.4L 183k miles finally messed up its timing components and I doubt I will pay $4k to properly fix it. I am looking at a 2018 F-150 XL with the 2.7L EcoBoost crew cab at a Ford Dealership with 88k miles and 4WD. It is certified used. Are these engines pretty reliable? I am worried about the EcoBoost engine and transmission specifically. What do you guys think about this year F-150 and engine choice? Thank you everyone!

Are these engines pretty reliable?

No, Ford's Ecoboost engines overall have a poor reputation for reliability and longevity and cost a fortune to repair when they break. The 10-speed automatic transmission is also questionable and that vehicle has been the subject of over a dozen recalls.

Note that engine and transmission problems top the list of problem areas:

Also, "certified pre-owned/used" in many if not most cases is basically a racket to increase the price of the vehicle.

Pass. That model is equipped with the GM-Ford 10-speed automatic, which was a disaster. Even after recalling them, they still couldn't get it right. GM and Ford will never work together again, that's how poorly designed it was.

Even if the transmission were decently reliable, the only thing keeping that truck going is the turbocharger. I have an old 1999 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 3.0L, and it's a dog. That full-size truck will be even more of a dog when that turbo goes out.
