We are in the market in Australia for a SUV. Sticking with Japanese manufacturers, we are considering models suchs as Mazda CX5, Mitsubishi Outlanderand and smaller sibbling Mitsubishi ASX , Honda CRV, and Subaru Forrester. the RAV 4 is also nice but tends to be a little more $. Around 2017-2020ish. Primarily looking for comfort, reliability and longevity (though the wife also appreciates the creature comforts like heated seats etc). The wife has been driving her mother in laws Nissan X-Trail 2015 with the 2.5L 4 cyl and we find it to be completely gutless. It has the acceleration of a tractor. Having not yet driven many other vehicles in the class, we are wondering if this sluggishness is a characteristic of the class or just worse with this particular Nissan? We have heard a lot of negative press around CVT and so were drawn to the Mazda CX5's standard 6 speed auto (wife doesn't want manual). Though not sure if more modrn CVT's still have reliability issues. Are there any of these models that stand out either positively or negatively. Anything particular to look for? Any particular recommendations to guide us in the right direction.
Out of those I'd say the Honda CRV. The problem with the Nissan is it's a rather big and heavy vehicle with the 4-cylinder engine. It's a pile of crap. The ax trails with the V6 are decent. They're fine. So if I were you I'd probably go with the Honda and the second choice would be a Subaru
