I have heard that there is a serious problem with carbon buildup on the intake valves of GDI engines and included is the 2.4 Kia engine with Gasoline Direct Injection.  Any suggestions to eliminate this problem? Chemicals, how often, what procedure?

I use the CRC GDI intake cleaner on my father 2019 GT N-Line. I would do it every 25,000kms or depending on your driving, every 15,000kms. Seafoam works well too.

Look into getting an oil catch can for your car to prevent any and all oil vapours from getting into the intake system. You just have to empty every oil change.

IF you drive the car hard every once in a while, you won't have much of a problem. And if you use seafoam/CRC GDI cleaners, you wouldn't have to worry about it at all. An OCC (oil catch can) however, pretty much stops any carbon from building on the intake valves, since no more oil will get into the intake system.
