2018 RAM 1500 3.6L, 41k miles, throwing no codes. I recently pulled a trailer weighing about 7k lbs, as soon as I dropped off the trailer and pulled away my truck made a embarrassingly loud buzzing/rattling noise from engine compartment. Turned off and restarted and the noise went away but my AC started blowing warm air. Cooling fan on radiator will not turn on. Coolant temp and trans temp are reading normal levels on dash when driving around neighborhood. Coolant level was pretty low when I checked it, but no sign of leaks. I have filled it since, still fan is not working. Blown fuse? Blown cooling fan motor? Trans cooler/ac condenser went ka-poot? Please help. Thanks!
I am just curious if this kind of failure is normal on a truck with 40k miles?
Problems with electrical and electronic components are all too common on late-model Chrysler products.
You might try putting 12 volts directly to the fan to see if the fan motor is fried. If it works on 12 volts direct, I'd be looking at the fan control module as the culprit.
Still no power with leads straight from battery to electrical coupler. I have even taken the fans motor apart cleaned with compressed air and lubed bearing still nothing. So at this point I'm certain motor is toast. Picking up a new one tomorrow. If this ends up being my issue I am just curious if this kind of failure is normal on a truck with 40k miles?
Okay new fan is in. Motor will come on when truck reaches 228°F but doesn't automatically come on with AC running. AC is just blowing warm air. What would cause fan to not come on with AC running, but does when coolant temp gets to certain temp?
You seem to have low speed working but not high speed with the new fan.
Have you checked the fan relays and their fuses? Maybe the high speed fan relay is fried.
Vehicle is not equipped with high and low speed relays. Slots where they are supposed to go on fuse box are empty. I think that might only be for the 5.7 RAM. My 3.6 just has the 80amp PWM fuse for fan. Which wasn't blown but I replaced it anyway to be sure.
Sorry about that. I thought that the 1500's came with either twin fans controlled by 3 relays or a single fan controlled by 2 relays
.
If you don't have any relays then your fan is controlled by a duty cycle signal from the PCM to a cooling fan control module
.
So suspect that or its wiring connector
Yes, with Dodge Ram.
