Hey scotty so i have a 2019 honda civic 2.0 liter cvt with 18,000 miles on the odometer, i haven't replaced the air filter yet because i'm not sure if it needs to be replaced yet. I checked the air filter and the left side of the air filter is pretty much white and clean and the right side is almost black. Should i change it now or wait until both sides are black
This is kind of strange. I would take a closer look - is the black part oil?
Sounds like the dirty side of the air filter is the air inlet side where the most dirt is going to accumulate. If you hold the filter up to a light if you can see light through the dirt you can continue to use that filter. I would just use some compressed air to blow the dirt buildup out and put it back in. It shouldn't be that dirty with only 18k miles on it unless you go down dusty roads frequently. If you can no longer see daylight through the filter I would replace it.
