Hey Scotty!
My wife and I are looking at a 2020 Highlander to purchase. It's an AWD model, V6, with 53k miles. Doing some research online I have seen those potential transmission issues with the UA80E/F (in this case the UA80F) transmissions where there can be some premature wear and a replacement runs upwards of $8,000. Other than changing the fluid every 30k-60k miles, is there anything else we could do to help "prevent" any issues? Or do we think due to the sheer number of Highlanders on the road, even if there are a "higher than average" report of this issue, do you perceive it to be as big of a deal?

Thanks for any of your advice you can share with us!

Toyota TSB-00008-21 refers to the 2021 year Highlander and other 2021 vehicles. However it appears that 2020 models are also affected:

If the transmission is defective or prematurely worn internally there is nothing you can do to prevent it from cratering on you. It would be best to avoid models equipped with that transmission.
