How do I manually release an electric parking brake

Hi Scotty,

My wife's 2020 Camry has a second dead battery in one month.  So, it's probably a bad alternator or a parasitic drain.  But get this:  I wanted to roll it out of the garage for the tow truck.  I was able to find the release for the shifter, but, as best as I can tell, there is no MANUAL RELEASE for the electronic parking brake!  So, how the heck do I get this car out of the garage w/o jumpstarting it?

  • put a charger on it
  • remove the parking brake module from back of the calipers. There's videos on youtube.

just be happy they aren't coming on while you're driving down the highway, like the Fords.

Thanks for the reply.  What a hassle.  Wonder if this is a know issue for Camry's now.  Car only has 18,000 miles.

Check the owners manual.

For a BMW X5, there was a wire hidden in the trunk, and a special tool the help pull the wire to release the brake. Special tool came with the car.

I imagine something similar for a Camry.
