Hi there! I've watched Scotty's videos on the older pilots, but haven't been able to find his opinion on the newer ones. I know the 2017-2019 pilots have bad transmissions, but am trying to get an education opinion about the newest models. Do you think the new transmissions are any good? Would it be worth putting a transmission cooler on, or Would it be better to go with a Toyota Highlander, or maybe something else?
Any input would be very much appreciated 🙂
ZF usually makes good transmissions. But this 9 speed was a bit problematic. ZF says it was a software issue, not mechanical.
If you trust ZF, like I trust Honda or Toyota, then by now they should have figured the problems out. The 9 speed has been out 7 years.
If you trust ZF, like I trust Fiat/Chrysler, GM, then don’t trust it at all.
That's a great answer, thank you for the info!!
ZF makes great transmissions. However, we need to get miles put on the newer transmissions in order to see how they hold up. Time will tell, as it always does.
You're lucky that Mod_Man is one of the forum owners who has a ZF transmission equipped vehicle. ZF makes decent transmissions until it became a problem with their Honda and Fiat/ Chrysler vehicles for the reasons stated above
