I'm buying a new car and these two are my final options. I'm just a daily driver, who lives in Seattle. Which one would you buy and why?
The SI gets 36mpg highway and the WRX gets 27mpg highway thats a big difference.
If your down to reliability I'd get the Civic.
If you like how the WRX drives better, get the WRX.
If you want another recommendation, the Impreza manual transmission and Corolla XSE are good ones.
I personally would get the Civic SI.
Thanks Kerem! i feel like the si would suit me better too overall. I just have to wait when it comes out this spring
I would go for the WRX. I just bought a brand new 2020 WRX a few months ago and I absolutely love it. The AWD system is fantastic and it really pulls you through corners well when you're driving spiritedly. Both of those are good cars, but I think the WRX is a better overall package. It has about 70 more horsepower and lbs-ft of torque than the Si and it has AWD while the Si is only FWD (and the WRX sounds much better). The Subaru also has a stiffer suspension which means it handles way better and has much better grip than the Civic Si.
The 2 main downsides to the WRX are 1) it gives worse fuel economy versus the Civic Si and 2) because of the stiffer suspension, the ride quality is worse. Even then, the WRX is plenty enough comfortable to daily drive.
If you prioritize performance and fun factor over comfort, get the WRX. If you want more comfort and are willing to sacrifice some performance and fun factor, go for the Civic Si. They are both very well built and should be quite reliable as long as you don't beat the heck out of them.
Thanks for for the feedback. appreciate that! i recently test drove a 2020 wrx and my goodness it was amazing.
I have to agree that si would give better mileage which is a HUGE plus for me, plus the comfort(i just need to test drive one and see for myself!).
I dont go too crazy on driving so I feel like if I buy the wrx I wont be able to use its potential.
Fair point! The Si will easily give you 40 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. I've driven a 2019 Si sedan and I have to say it is much more comfortable than the WRX, especially over uneven and bumpy roads. But, the performance and thrill factor of the WRX definitely won me over 🙂 Hope you enjoy whichever one you go with!
I just have to wait for the new 2022 civic si to come out! too long of a wait haha
Both are great. These are sports cars.
Daily drivers are usually the Impreza and the Civic, respectively.
But that doesn't mean you can't use the WRX and the Civic Si as a daily driver.
While I think the WRX is great in terms of center of gravity and all wheel drive traction, the Civic Si is potentially easier to maintain. (With the WRX you need to jack up the engine to change the spark plugs. With the Civic Si, the spark plugs are easily accessible.)
I lean Civic Si, but that doesn't mean the WRX is a bad choice either.
Hey thanks for the feedback! I have these choices because I want to drive a manual car. And I don't really have the skills to go on tracks and stuff haha.
Yeah I think I'm leaning on a civic just a little bit, but I have to wait and test drive the 2022 si and see!
Civic Si....
