Hi Scotty, I want to get a small off-road toy for the desert here in Qatar and I really like those Suzuki Jimney. It’s a 2021, 3000 km, manual transmission and made in Japan. How reliable are those cars ? Thanks
It's a very solid little off-roader, a simple ladder frame with cross bars (great off road, but quite miserable on the highway). They tend to be great reasonably reliable cars.
Note that timing chains on these are considered to be weak and that valve clearance adjustments can get quite expensive on these. Service engine oil every 5,000- 6,000 miles (7,500km-10,000km), service the fluid inside of the manual transmission, differentials and other components once in a while and do not forget to do any additional maintenance that might be required by the manufacturer.
Thank you
We don't have them here in the states, but I have heard they are pretty solid. I think they failed our safety requirements and that's why they aren't here, but I can not say that for sure.
I mean the Jimny got 73% on the EuroNCAP and that's not great but not terrible.
As far as I know it has to do just with Suzuki pulling out of the US in 2013 and exactly that's a shame cause that's when they began to build genuinely nice cars like the 2nd gen SX4 S-Cross.
Thanks
