i plan on buying a brand new 2023 Rav 4 LE AWD.

is the 8 speed transmission reliable? are there any problems with this year? will this specific year easily reach 300k miles, or should i get an older model?

thanks

brand new 2023 ... are there any problems with this year?

How the heck is anybody supposed to know that?

It's still 2022!

The 2023 is largely similar to all fifth generation RAV4. And many Camry’s and Camry based vehicles.

It is next to imposible to know how reliable the 2023 is, because it is so new. With the process of deduction from previous RAV4 years of the same generation, and other Camry based Toyota vehicles of the latest generations, we can take an educated guess that the engine and transmission may be reliable. The transmission has been around since 2013, first used in a Lexus RX. And the engine has been around since 2017 first used in a Camry. And so far, so good.

Huh?

4th gen automatic RAV4's (2012-2018) have a 6 speed U760E transmission made in-house.

The current generation automatics (5th) have an 8-speed transmission. They gave it a Toyota model number (UA80E) but it's actually an Aisin AW F8F35. Aisin generally makes good stuff, but there have been some bugs (jerkiness) when brand new. Toyota provided software updates to address it. I'm not 100% sure how effective the update was, but I haven't heard a lot of complaints, so maybe it's fixed or the transmission needs some break-in.

The transmission itself has been used in the Lexus RX since 2013. Not the RAV4 forth generation. RAV4 only started using the transmission in the fifth generation.

Ah!... Existed since 2013.
