I have a 2023 GMC AT4 Diesel with 1,549 miles. It has been parked in my garage at my summer home in northeast Maine. It has been garaged for 11 months and has a quarter tank of fuel. I have a battery tinder connected. Will I be able to just jump in and drive off? Or what do I need to do before starting it? I did not put any additives in the tank.
11 months in a garage with a battery tender should not generally cause too much to worry about.
With the diesel, though, there is the potential for water or algae in the tank. I'd probably hit it with a fuel additive with an algicide, then change the fuel filter(s) after you drive it a bit. Then keep an eye on the fuel filter stats on the information screen. (You didn't specify whether you have the 1500 with the 3.0L diesel or the 2500 with the 6.6L. In the 3.0, it has 1 fuel filter, located along the fuel lines under the left side of the cab. I don't know on the 2500.)
It's a 1500. Thank you for getting me an answer. Do you know of a dependable additive that I should use? Thanks again!!!
Power Service has a solid reputation for diesel additives, and I would think their "Bio Kleen" is probably a good choice. Howes also makes one.
Just to clarify, I would probably just do one treatment and then go back to your regular additive (assuming you are using one - check the search bar for opinions on that).
FYI: the fuel filter replacement is an easy (but messy) DIY job. Just make sure to use the right size socket (I think it's a 36 mm, but check it) so you don't round off the plastic cap.
Thanks!
