Does anyone have any knowledge or personal experiences with these 5.0 motors? I know the 3rd gen 5.0 is starting to show it has bad oil dilution issues. Is the 2nd gen 5.0 bulletproof for the most part?
Mine was a 3rd Gen....so there had been changes since the 2nd Gen.
Yeah I just went with that he had experience with a lot of Fords and probably knows something about them...
From my basic not in-depth research those are one of the best F-150 engines out there but if there was a known problem Mod Man probably knew it, looks like there isn't.
I don't hear many bad things about the 2nd Generation 5.0L. Pre-2018, they seemed to have been fairly solid.
@mod_man yeah man I figured, I bought a 2015 5.0 F150 and have been actually impressed with the truck. Looks fairly simple to work on.
They are simple. And I wish they had stayed with the same build quality because their success was why I bought my '18. Just didn't realize they changed so much. But you're not going to have the oil problems later trucks did and you don't have the 10-speed to worry about. You done good! {black}
@mod_man haha well hopefully I’ll get at least 10yrs out of it. Between the gov and EPA Ford has just been trying to stay in line which is why they have these Ecooops motors. It’s to bad they had to strip the 5.0 of it’s true nature to fit in with the EPA standard. I will say so far the 6 speed auto hasn’t been a troublemaker at all.
It seems that 2011-2014 model 5.0s were pretty solid from what I've heard on the forum. 2015 is a new generation so you might want to avoid it because of the small kinks hear and there but then again its up to you {black}:face:
@kerem I hear you, I put in about 2 yrs of research before I bought this truck. From what I’ve seen and talking to other people say if you buy a 5.0 1st or 2nd gen is the way to go. I would have loved to buy a Tundra but to find a used one below 100k mi is hard as hell. And the new price tag is out of the question for me. Out of FCA, Ford, GM 1/2 ton trucks I think I would still pick Ford. Yes they are making a lot of changes really fast using these 10spd transmissions and all these motor options. But I’ll give it to them at least they’re thinking outside the box a little bit. It’s really the Gov and EPA that’s dictating all these emissions and engine changes. I will say I 100% believe Ford customer service is non existent whatsoever but at least the engineers are trying to keep the customer and the Gov happy at the same time which is a hard thing to do.
