Has the longevity of this engine improved any in recent years? I know around 2013-14 they really didn’t last over 120k 130k. Our family vehicle is a 2003 excursion v10 with 240k. My wife & I were looking at expedition L & max. It’s only available with the 3.5. As with the current X I like to take care of my stuff and keep it around awhile. Logic tells me the 3.5 might last 120k but not likely to hit 200k. Any experience with the 2018 and newer 3.5?
the 2nd gen is better than the 1st, but it's still a turbocharged ecoboom. I would avoid it if you want it to last a long time, or don't want the added maintenance cost (needs frequent oil changes not to fall apart. Ignition parts fail often due to turbo).
If you are willing to buy used (or you can find a dealership with 2022 model on their lot since Toyota isn't making 2022 anymore already) it might be worth considering the Toyota Sequoia (only through 2022 since from 2023 that's going to be twin turbo). If you can find a good one it's a great car.
