5.4 3V OHC Delima should I fix it?

Scotty, I have a 2008 F150 King Ranch with 186K miles on it. I started having a little knocking noise that sounds like it may be coming from the passenger side phaser. Just recently it started chugging at stops, so I had to unplug the phaser solenoids. It runs rich with reduced power but it runs. My mechanic gave me a price of about $1,100.00 to $1,200.00 to replace the phasers and solenoids. I understand that there may have been unknown damage to the cam or lifters etc. that won't be adressed. The tranny is also showing some signs of wear. When hot it hesitates to go into reverse and I get a little chatter occasionally at high speed when picking up load on grades etc. My question is if it would be best to just have a rebuilt motor and tranny put in at a cost of around $7K to $9K I'm guessing. Is it worth it for a 2008 in pretty good condition body and interior wise?

I would sell it for whatever I could get and move on.
