I’m looking at getting back into a truck and am looking at a 2006 f-150 lariat 4x4 with the 5.4 with 182k miles. It’s a 2 owner southern truck and looks to be in good shape (I haven’t looked at it in person yet). They’re asking 8900. Is this a good buy it would I better off staying away from a 3 valve?
thanks for any info
james
Some mechanics claim the 3 valve v8 is the worst Ford engine ever - check out this site https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/F-150/2006/
If it smells like fish...oh wait, wrong scenario...if it sounds like a diesel, leave it alone...damage is already done.
If it comes with oil change (5.4 oil changes are critical to less timing issues) and other maintenance records...it may of been already updated as to timing and oil pressure issues (updated with higher volume oil pump).
Price seems a bit high...even considering the current new prices...unless it is showroom new looking and has some documented extensive repairs/replacements...engine, transmission, etc.
