Scotty,
What is your advice on changing spark plugs in 2006 Ford F-150 5.4 Triton engine?
Been gaining loads of knowledge from you for a long time.
Thanks!
Al E Kat
Be very careful ! Don't be in big hurry !
Carefully remove the electrical connection to each coil or you'll snap-off the little clip retainer. And don't be surprised when you need to use slightly different tools to get at each different plug. A magnetic plug tool can really help.
You have steel-threads on the plug, but an aluminum plug hole with aluminum threading. It makes it very easy to cross-thread the plug hold and cause damage. Also, use anti-seize, apply very low levels of torque to the new spark plug (about 9-13 ft/lbs, but check your own manual).
Cross-threading means repair using a threaded insert, not that hard to do but takes special tools and can be a real pain in the ... And then, what about the metal fragments inside the cylinder ???
And I didn't even mention all of the other hoses and stuff you have to remove to even gain access to the coils/plugs.
Otherwise, piece of cake ...
PS: If you can't find much guidance in videos for a 5.4, the process is basically the same for the 4.6, and there's a bunch of videos out there for that engine.
Hope this helps ...
