5k Oil change on any car with turbo

Hello Scotty

I saw the video with your LS 500, best car!

On another video you mention that we should change the oil after 5k miles regardless what the manufacture states.

I have a 2020 LS 500 F-sport, does this statement hold true with this vehicle? Manufacture states oil change at 10k miles so, should I also change it at 5k miles?

I do a lot of highway traveling and trips range from 300-1000 miles a given weekend.

I don’t know that there’s much advantage of 5k over 10k when the manufacturer recommends 10 and you are doing a lot of highway miles.  BUT...

If you want to go 10k between changes, you must:

  • Use good quality oil and filter. This is where Mobil 1 is going to have an advantage over Walmart/Amazon/store brand (I’m not sure there is an advantage for more frequent changes)
  • Check the oil frequently between changes and be alert for signs of oil dilution
  • set yourself a reminder so you don’t go over 10k
  • remember that oil is cheaper than an engine, especially that engine

Personally I’d probably do 5k, especially if I’m doing the service myself (maybe with a car like that, you are having all the service done at the dealer).  But if you are meticulous about following the manufacturers recommendations, you’ll probably be fine.

Thank you, yes I only take it dealer. I somehow end up giving up an arm or a leg each time but that's another story.

Compare the cost of oil changes with the cost of engine replacement and you'll find your answer. (Doing 5K oil changes is cheap insurance.)
