I have a Toyota with a 5VZ engine (3.4l V6). The fan bearings need replacement, but it appears you have to replace the whole fan unit because you cannot just remove and replace the bearings that are holding the fan's shaft. The whole unit costs around 50 times (yes, fifty) more than just the bearings would. Is there a way to get around this without Toyota milking me like a cow? Years ago, I saw a similar situation with Honda Jazz front wheel bearings: no-one could figure out how to remove them, so they replaced the whole knuckle at great cost.

Well try aftermarket ones they cost a lot less. And if you don't mind louder fan noise you can get a flex fan assembly
