  1. I have a 93 ford ranger I paid $120.00 for it has 4.0 in it and a 5 speed manual. The motor recently blew up and was wondering how hard would it be to put a 5.0 motor in it.

It depends on how experienced you are on working on cars. The 5.0 never came in the ranger so that makes it harder. It looks like a few people have done it before so that's good. But at a minimum for the 5.0 swap you will need to get a matching transmission and all of the wiring. You will most likely also need a new driveshaft made to the correct length. Another thing to think about is can the ranger handle the extra power? I doubt a stock rear end can handle the torque from the v8. But if you want a fun project and enjoy working out bugs i would do it.

I've done a couple of these and it's fairly straightforward. It's easiest if you have a complete '96-'01 V8 Explorer for parts, motor mounts, computer and wiring will swap right over from the Explorer.

Your 5 speed transmission won't bolt up to a 5.0, for a manual you'll need a M5OD-R2 from a '90s 5.0 F-150 which is a bolt in swap.

You may or may not need a driveshaft made, if you use the M5OD your original driveshaft should work. Most 4.0 rangers had the 8.8" rear end, which is the same as what came in Explorer V8s and will hold up well with a V8.
