My 94 celica gt with about 230000 miles 2.2l engine recently started acting up. As I was taking off I noticed a slight hiccup thought weird my car has never done this before. Drove about 5-10 minute and then I noticed it was loosing power and surging. When I got to town I realized when I was downshifting it was popping extra then when I came to a stop it bogged right down. Idles about 200 maybe 250rpms.i assumed vacume leak or bad gas so I checked both and came up with nothing.checked my plugs they look good wires are good. After looking it over and watching 100 Scotty videos and reading my entire manual I decided to take off the EGR and throttle body and clean them. They both looked great. I did not remove the IAC at first but it seemed rather clean. Put it together it runs the same. This whole time I am waiting for my new cap and rotor. I notice just a little bit of debris I missed in the throttle body so I sprayed it with it on the car. Tried to start it it won't start. Got the cap and rotor changed the plugs. Took the throttle body off again. Cleaned it blew air through. Noticed my vacume line on the bottom was cracked up I fixed that got it all back together clean and dry. Still nothing. An occasional pop. I'm positive when I sprayed it with it on the car is what made it not start. I was using engine tuner not carb clean.(similar to seafoam).so I have a couple problems now. where should I look now.
Wow you might want to have the fuel injectors pressure clean they get old enough they can go wacky. Since that thing does not have a mass airflow sensor can't be the mass airflow sensor doesn't have one. But also try this if you shift it into neutral and it's okay but when you put it in drive it isn't that means that the torque converter is worn dragging the engine too much if it's an automatic transmission
