My dad has been wanting a new suv with a v8 and I showed him this 1999 lexus lx470 with 138k miles for only $6600.

Is this a good deal? Does this SUV require tons of maintnence because it is so complex?

I personally would not buy one that old the VH gets very expensive to repair when they're over 20 years old

What is the VH? Also, he will not be using it a lot.

Scotty means V8

Wow that looks to be in fantastic condition! $6600 is a huge bargain for that, especially if the true mileage is really only -  it's barely broken in. Like you said, it's a Land Cruiser and the 100 series models are rising in value. Have a trusted mechanic give it a thorough inspection first and especially check for rust since it's in New York. If that Cruiser is in good shape, then yes I would certainly snatch it up quickly. You routinely see those with 300k+ miles.

i saw a glimpse of the frame and it appeared to be extremely rust free. How exactly do I verify the mileage?

Run a Carfax check on it and check to see the mileage reports are consistent. Also ask for service records and check the mileage on those to make sure it's consistent.

Apparently, you are dealing with a dealer. Be very cautious. The car, especially the engine bay, was cleaned up.

How do you know? I asked the guy and he said he was the second owner of the car.

Ask if the title is under his name.

Gosh that’s in great shape for a 1999.

The passenger seat upholstery is worn out more than the driver’s seat, so I’d look into that to verify if the mileage is genuine for a 22yr old Lexus.

As always, if you’re aware of the risks with buying a Lexus V8, I’d say have it inspected by a professional mechanic, before you buy it.

If the mileage is genuine, it has plenty of life remaining.

that is very good truck that can last up to million miles if maintained properly..just make sure to do the belt and the water pump on time ..you should be fine

The price is very good, however it’s 22 years old and it’s a gamble.....

I mean it is a land cruiser

Sorry bud, seems like somebody took advantage of the deal already. Its no longer for sale.

Also is this going to be a daily driver or just a weekend toy kind of first car?

I know some other dude stole my LX470. I'm sad. I want to replace my dad's 2015 accord with a lexus gx460 maybe.

Good luck then. 2 decade old luxury V8 large SUV doesn't sound like a good first car imo but if thats your thing then....
I found nothing to say

Replacing the starter and knock sensor on the V8’s can easily run into the thousands ($2,000-$3,000+) due to their location if you pay a mechanic to replace them.
