Aloha everyone!
Looking for safe, reliable, roomy, comfortable hatchback - under $8,000 - model years 2011-2014, from private owner but will buy from dealer if necessary.
Your forum has many positive reviews about: Honda Fit, Toyota Matrix and Scion XD.
Prefer larger cargo space of Matrix and Fit, but Scion has no recalls and fewer complaints.
Honda Fit: many recalls and complaints on carcomplaints.com, consumerreports.org, kbb.com, etc.
Almost bought Kia Soul, but due to serious recalls and cheap construction, decided to get Honda or Toyota instead.
Live in San Francisco bay area, so inventory of Scion and especially Matrix is more limited than Fit. 🙂
Just go with the one in the best shape, mechanically.
As with any used car, have it thoroughly inspected by a mechanic, before you buy it.
Aloha!
I think any of them would be a great choice, assuming everything checks out.
I'd probably get which ever one is in the best shape at the lowest price.
My preference of those 3 would be Matrix > Fit > xD. But really, I'd take any.
Honda Fit: many recalls and complaints on carcomplaints.com, consumerreports.org, kbb.com, etc.

Pfft! to all above. I own a ‘10 Fit Sport, … quite a few folks I know own Fits. First generation, second generation, … Japanese made, Chinese made, even the latest: Mexican made! Manual and automatic. Yet, all those who own Fits that I know love their Fits and have no problem with them whatsoever! Some have well in excess of 250,000 km on them, … and still run very, very well. fwiw.
F.S.
You'll probably be good with any of them. If any of them have a manual transmission, I would put that higher on the list. Me personally I'd go for the Scion....friend of mine had one and he put a ton of miles on it and it held up really well, and he could haul a lot of stuff in it, and it was (to me) surprisingly powerful.
All of those cars are very good but I wouldn't pay 8 grand for those model years.
