Vehicle: 2010 tundra 5.7
The AC in my truck blows air but not cold. I took it to a shop to get it recharged that said I need a new compressor and condenser. I bought and hooked up a set of manifold gauges and with the engine off, the low and high sides both show 0 psi. With engine running and AC on, the clutch on the compressor didn't engage until I started adding R134a. As I was adding the refrigerant, the clutch engaged and the PSI did increase on the low side as it was being introduce into the system but dropped to -5 PSI once the can was empty.
When the engine and AC is off, the low side is about 90 psi whereas the high side is just over 100 psi. When the engine is running, the compressor clutch is engaged and the low pressure drops to -5 and the high side is just under 100 psi. I can assume that the compressor isn't the problem. Thank you for any advice.
Well obviously the compressor is sucking in because it's got negative and it's blowing out cuz it's got positive on the positive side. I'm not saying it's perfect but you got a restriction somewhere in the system could be a clogged expansion valve all kinds of things but I would not start with putting a compressor in it
Thank you sir for you rapid response. Would it make sense to replace the drier and/or condenser before I tackle the expansion valve? Do you recommend that I replace the expansion valve and evaporator since I will have to remove the dash as well? Thank you again for all you do with helping the community.
