Good evening. I bought a used 2004 Toyota Corolla LE with 135k miles on it. It has an automatic transmission and the car works very well. The thing is that for an LE model, it does not have Cruise control. I do a lot of highway driving. This car has a throttle by cable not a throttle by wire system. How can I add cruise control to this car? I don't see anything online for this specific model. I know that this body style after 2005 I believe it came with throttle by wire. I'm not sure if mine being throttle by cable will complicate things or is actually easier. Please advise and I appreciate it thank you.
Not worth the trouble - I would leave it alone.
I would leave the car as is. Adding something like cruise will require wiring without question. The thing is also besides that, you would also have to make adjustments to the computer and electronics.
One of my cars has cruise control, while the other one does not. Each time I think about what has to be added / modified in order to have it work properly on the car which did not have it originally, I come to the conclusion that it is easier to buy another car, which has it, than to properly add it to the one which does not.
Cruise control is one of the first "self driving car" add ons that sounds great in theory but still doesn't remove responsibility from the driver. If you are really going to rely on some electronic or vacuum operated device to absolve you of your responsibility as a driver, good luck to you and your next victim.
I did it on a 2004 scion xb, I think they are the same. It does take a little work, but they are not that hard. I can hardly live without cruise, I am already getting ready to add it to my 98' ford f-150.
Thanks to all for the advice.
Some vehicles are pre-wired for cruise and don't have it actually installed, others have absolutely no wiring pre-installed at all, others are a weird combo. I considered adding cruise control to my 1999 Ranger after finding out it's pre-wired for it in the dash. I did not follow through with the add-on, as I found I was missing a wire on the engine side of the system and did not want to risk wrecking a main wire harness to complete an unnecessary circuit, so I dropped the idea.
