Dealer charged $4500 for a fix which didn’t work, now they want another $1350

Hi all, we have a 2004 Lexus RX 330 that we took to the dealer due to power steering whine. They replaced the power steering pump and the rack which puts us out $4500. The whine is still apparent and took it back. Now they find the reservoir return hose is rusted out and pump may need replacing due to run dry. It would cost another $1350 fix. Why wasn’t it addressed at first visit? Do we have any say that the original problem wasn’t fixed so we aren’t charged another arm and a leg for this? Take it somewhere else? Thank you for your time!

That's a typical dealer rip off. Demand to fix it for free due to the misdiagnosis.

If you enjoy getting ripped off, go to a dealer, that's what they do.  You need to find an independent mechanic.

Imagine replacing both the pump and the rack and not looking at the reservoir and hose!

With these jokers, it could very well be that the whine is coming from the alternator, belt tensioner or something else entirely.

Typical dealer shenanigans.

I don’t think there is much you can do except an expensive lesson learned not to go to the dealer.

If I go to the dealer and they tell me something is wrong, I take it to my trusted mechanic. 9 times out of 10, the dealer is full of it.
