I’m thinking about driving over to a dealership in East Tennessee to check out a 2019 Toyota Prius with 54,000 miles that was traded in by an owner from Asheville, NC. My first thought was, “Uh-oh, Asheville—could this thing have been flood damaged?” especially with all the weather craziness that’s happened around there. CARFAX and Autocheck as well as check my VIN come back clean.
Should I just assume the worst and walk away, or do you think it’s worth taking a look at? I was planning to bring it to an ASE-certified mechanic for a second opinion while I’m there, just to be safe. What’s your gut say—good idea to check it out, or should I steer clear?
Thanks. On a hunch a had the dealer send me this intake inspection report. And written on it the tech noted that it appeared to have seen flood waters and the rear suspension was leaking.
glad I asked saved me the trouble traveling and the financial disaster waiting to happen
@retorts-citrus-3q Good that you checked and thanks for letting us know that a potential disaster has been averted!
@retorts-citrus-3q Nice! "The year suspension appeared to be leaking" , I wonder why? 🤣
Should I just assume the worst and walk away, or do you think it’s worth taking a look at?It's only been a few months since Helene so your concerns are understandable. Realize than many cars(the majority) were unaffected by the flooding so yes, it's worth checking out. Make sure to have a knowledgeable mechanic inspect. He would know flooded cars typically have a few tell-tale signs. Never rely on CARFAX or Autocheck for such information, they don't guarantee anything. Good luck
