Airbag light after recall "fix".

I took my 05 Sequoia to get the airbag recall done at Larry Miller Toyota in Peoria AZ. My SRS light was NOT on. After I left I noticed the SRS light was on but couldn't go back due to my schedule. I called them back and told the service advisor. He said No, the light was on when they took it in for the repair. Now he says it's probably a click spring that cost $1000 to replace. I hooked up my Zurich  ZR13. There are no airbag codes. Did they do something to make it seem like I need the clock spring? Am I getting scammed?

Considering that rockauto.com lists the clockspring for that vehicle for under $200 I'd say it's at least a ripoff if not a scam.

05 Sequoia SR5 235K miles.

Went to Larry Miller Toyota in Peoria AZ. For the Tacata recall. 1st service appt triggered the SRS light but no code, or so they thought. Was told it was probably a $1000 clock spring spiral wire repair that was needed. No light or code was present when I took it in. The service advisor let me go and didn't inform me that the airbag might not inflate if the light was on. He said, "It's a mystery to us." I called the whole thing "shenanigans" and decided to write to you Scotty and call Toyota corporate.

Today was my 2nd visit, after I called Toyota corporate, to complain and mention what Scotty Kilmer might think about all of this.

Miracle of miracles!! The Service Manager Rick took out his fancy Toyota scan tool and found code B1234. A bad center airbag sensor was triggering the light. Funny/suspicious how it wasn't found during the 1st visit. It has been replaced and now all is good! He apologized and said he will be "talking" to the service advisor on why things went the way they did. I believe the service advisor was trying to scam me. I believe they realized they got busted by someone with knowledge that has a long distance mechanic friend named Scotty.

Thank you Scotty for teaching and giving us knowledge so we can be prepared.

In the recipt you got, it should say the Air bag light was on when you took the car there. If it is not there, try to talk to the dealer owner and explain your situation.

There is NO note on the invoice as to the light being on.

So it is your winning ticket. Talk to the shop owner.

Yes, you're getting scammed.

Yes definitely go to Toyota corporate because the individual dealers just scumbags and anytime you get anything done under warranty they just try to sell you something else

My mistake. The dealership originally said the SRS light may be a bad "spiral wire", not the clock spring. Anyway, at dealership now. Will update when I'm done.

Lol. Just looked it up... the clock and spiral cable are the same thing?

Also, what can I tell them? What may they have done wrong or not hooked up? I want to go "in" with knowledge so they know I'm informed.

A bit long. 05 Sequoia 228k...ish miles 4.7. Previous post. Larry Miller Toyota of Peoria AZ. (Phoenix area) 2nd appt now on this Wed. 1st recall service triggered an SRS light but no code. I have a Zurich ZR13 fancy scan tool. No code(s) or light the night before recall service. After service light was on. Had to leave for work out of town. Complained to Toyota cust service. Dealer called me to scan again and see if it needs s $1000 clock spring repair... I said NO! You are going to ALSO recheck all of your work as well! My 1st Toyota was a 69 Toyota Corona w/a 1390 cc 4cyl. I know my vehicles and now this truck thanks to Scotty Kilmer! We will see what they think of the results as well as Toyota corporate when this is done! I'll update on Wed afternoon.
