Scotty,

I bought a 2001 Nissan Altima GXE with only 46,000 miles on it earlier this year which runs great.  It needs new tires however, 195/60R/15's  What brand(s) would you recommend, length of tread warranty and what's a good price point for those tires?  I don't want to spend an arm and leg on a 20 year old car but still want a dependable tire.  Thanks Scotty.

there isn't any in particular just don't buy ones made in China.

You can get Michelin, good year, perilli .......................

You can try used tires if they are in a good condition, I guess they should be OK and you will be paying like 50$ a tire which is half the new one

I like the General Altimax RT43...high rating overall and high mileage life.

@heyinway
I second that, the Altimax RT43 has been my go-to tire for some time now.

I suggest go to tireack.com Play with their tire selector, … watch a vid or three, read reviews. Anyway, … start there.

I think you can try to search online and compare the price with your local Costco Wholesale, this weekend Black Friday sales you may find pretty decent deals for new tires and save a lot. I am going to find decent deal too, after today’s shift.

my preference, I like Japanese tires, such as Bridgestone, Toyo, Falken, Yokohama. (Some of them are Made-in-Japan)

Don’t buy Korean tires and Chinese tires.

Tires are very important for safety, pls make sure don’t get lousy ones.

Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Tires are the only thing on a car that actually makes constant contact with the driving surface. For a daily use tire I would always pay the extra for something like a good Michelin.

@bucketfoote
Michelins are good, but a bit overpriced, imo. Just stay away from the cheap brands and do a bit of research on which ones have been highly rated (both brands and tire lines) in past. These Dunlops won awards in their time and were an excellent well-priced H-rated tire in their time:

I've liked Dunlop in the past, but they always wore out way to fast. They very well could have improved this more recently, but that's been my experience with them. That said, I agree that there are other good options besides Michelin, but ultimately I don't find there to be much of a price difference when you factor in longevity.

There are plenty of good tires and you should price around to find the best deal. One thing is to consider is the production date of the tire, the more recent, the better since tires degrade over time. And do not buy Chinese tires.
