Angle grinder dust in engine?

Topic starter

Hi 🙂 i own 2005 chevrolet express 5.3 vortec v8

I cut my exhaust off with the angle grinder to properly maintain the transmission.

My question is then will the angle grinder dust get into the engine? And damage it? Thanks:)

Some details would be nice.

>I cut my exhaust off with the angle grinder to properly maintain the transmission.

why?

>will the angle grinder dust get into the engine? And damage it?

Where? If you cut it off right next to the engine block then sure it could

@mountainmanjoe
It was cut 1 meter from the engine

@Americanpop

I suspect that only ultra fine dust would have floated up that far and past the valves, so I don't think it's the end of the world. Most of it should get blown back out or picked up by the oil. I would take it for a quick drive after, and then change the oil.

@mountainmanjoe
Okay, I just changed the engine oil... and filter I have not cranked the engine yet

Should I remove spark plugs and blow compressed air into the cylinders?

can't hurt!

@mountainmanjoe
Okay I really really hope that no damage have occurred!! Do you think compressed air would clean em up?

Dont think so and if it does the exhaust push out not suck in.  So it will blow out

@klob
Okay 🙂 do it think compressed air into the cylinders through the sparkplug holes would help?

well if you have that kind of metal dust from any reason I would suggest to remove it because if you have it too much around can start corroding around engine bay and engine itself.. yes theoretically you can blow dust away with air compressor but be sure to protect all clean surfaces around and gaps so you don't contaminate them as well..

@m3chanika
What exacly do you mean with the engine bay?
And the clean surfaces and gaps
