Simple search, for a simple car. Have a pre-Approval, credit union backed budget of $15,000. Its not much but I have a beginning. I Cannot find a Toyota Camry (any year) on any dealership website or AutoTrader website near my residence in Portland Oregon that is worth going after. Maybe I have trepedation because I have to suck it up and take this vehicle to a ASE-certified (Automotive Service Excellence) mechanic by myself. But first, I need to find that one Toyota Camry!! Please Help....
I lack any help from family or friends. 😔 I hope to find this car within the 30 day period before my approval expires at my credit union. (that's what they told me)
I watched one of your videos about how reliable the Toyota Camry is and went ahead and searched every place I could but some of these cars have problems. I wonder if this area of the Pacific Northwest deals with alot of inferior automobiles.
I need to find a Toyota Camry only because I watched a video about it from your YouTube website and you mentioned how good they are. I am not looking for an extravagant car to buy. Just a reliable, used auto that my daughter and I can use for a while.
I do not have to deal with financing nor dealership monthly payments. Thats the advantage I have. I just need to find a reputable seller or dealership. So much research has led me to ask this question. You seem to have many resources and knowledge.
Please know that I do hope you are able to give of your vast knowledge and maybe offer something as to a new avenue for my ongoing search.
What are your thoughts concerning the reviews about how much information is not available to consumers on CarFax? ( https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2012/06/when-carfax-gets-it-wrong.html) I understand that some information about Kia, Hyundai models are hard to insure due to elevated thefts. ( https://www.nbcnews.com/business/hyundai-kia-car-theft-settlement-details-who-is-eligible-rcna85250) Maybe this applied only to the autos in Oregon.
So, why do I want a car under these types of conditions? Well, we need to move out of the Portland area.
Thank you and have a great July.
Bear in mind that as with any other car you need to filter Camrys with known problems from your consideration. Some, depending on year, engine, and drivetrain, are prone to oil burning, transmission problems, and other issues.
Don't even think about Hyundai or Kia. (See our topic on those vehicles.)
We have stated many times on this site that you cannot rely on Carfax for anything beyond possibly checking for odometer fraud. We even had a member here a little while back breathing a sigh of relief that his accident was not reported (will not show up on Carfax) and thus will not affect resale value.
If you cannot find a suitable car in your area you're probably going to have to travel.
beware of bad torque converters
it's always a good idea to check the recall database, and carcomplaints.com as a starting point for your research.
Please look in our FAQ under "I need to buy a car"
Well if you really had to get a Camry and none is available nearby, I guess you had to travel far away to get one. If not, how about any other Toyota models like Corolla or other brand like Honda?
