I'm looking at 2013+ ATS or CTS
If you maintain the car yourself you'll likely be spending a lot of time under the hood dealing with serious mechanical problems like timing chain and camshaft failure that those cars are notorious for. Unless it's being given away and you can treat it as a beater to be discarded at the first sign of trouble, I'd pass.
Run away from those cars if you value your time and money.
Cadillac's are not as expensive as a Mercedes, Audi, or BMW. They will cost to maintain but the problem is that the parts wear out because they are low quality and in the long run you will always be maintaining and fixing your car. Yes, you'll be spending money and quite some of it but below the European car brands.
Pass on it: engine, transmission and electronics are weak points and if you have to replace all 3 that’ll put you already over $10,000. Save your sanity (and pocketbook) and look for something more reliable.
Go to this forum and ask the people that own them.
they won't be biased at all
Yes, there may be some bias but also some honest answers. We know old Scotty is biased against everybody except Honda & Toyota LOL
Scotty is a mechanic with 50+ years of experience, and no skin in the game.
Most forum dwellers are lay people. Many will have only owned 1 or 2 different vehicles. And many need to feel better about the huge sums of money they dumped on their Cadillacs.
It’s not just Scotty but also Car Wizard and even my mechanic: they say essentially the same thing on which vehicles to buy. They don’t want to see people waste their hard earned dollars, so they tell the truth at the expense of losing business. Although they get plenty of business already because they are good at what they do (while being honest).
Like Chuck said, if you are buying, pass. If it is given to you, maybe.
