Hey Scotty. I’ve always owned junk cars and had bad luck with them. Partly because I don’t know anything about cars so I didn’t know what to do to take care of them. I want to be able to work on my cars I just know nothing. I had a 1985 Jetta diesel and I loved that car. I should’ve never gotten rid of it. My dad who isn’t a car guy either. explained to me how to take out the alternator over the phone. I took it out brought it to a junkyard had the brushes swapped and put it back in myself.
I just bought my first new car at 37 years old. A 2020 Toyota Camry hybrid XLE with 21k miles. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos lately. Could you make a video about what I can do to maintain my car. So that I can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of it? You’ve made videos about these kinds of cars. I was wondering if you could go more into depth. Like what to do at 25k 50k 100k etc and what to look for and keep an eye on. There is a high likely hood that I will hit those milestones quickly. Since I am using my car for Uber. Also where I should bring my car in New Hampshire. Live free or die 😀 also I doesn’t seem to be hitting the promised 44city/47highway. I’ve only had it for a month and using it for Uber. The best I’ve gotten so far is 42 mpg but it’s closer to 40. Is it because it’s cold outside? I’ve been driving it most of the time to maximize efficiency. I have what the electric engine and motor are doing on my dash. Coasting as much as possible for regen and taking my foot of the gas when I can to coast whenever the motor is working without the electric motor. Can I get it tuned to operate more efficiently? Maybe like a Prius? I wanted a Prius but I’m too big and tall 6’3” 300lbs. It now has 25k miles.
Also I have a 2006 dodge magnum 110k bought 4 years ago with 78k. What do you think of this car? V6 3.5L AWD. If you were closer I’d ask if I could bring it to you to do a video. I like that car it just wasn’t efficient for Uber. The transmission never seemed right sluggish and slow. There is now a leak in the transmission lines and it needs some other work. Also it’s burning through fuel way faster than when I got it. Should I try to fix it? I want to keep it as a second car for snow driving and maybe family trips where extra luggage is needed. I also do other gig jobs that require the extra space. Should I fix it and sell it or just sell it or fix it and keep it? It’s probably gonna cost me 1-2k to get it right and I’m willing to spend it because I really like the car. I think it’s the best looking station wagon you can buy. I like it better than a suv or crossover. I did have my mechanic look at it before buying it and he said it was solid. Most of the issues besides the recent ones have been minor but nobody seems to be able to answer my questions reliably. Questions coming from a non-car guy. Also I have 22 inch rims on there with no upgrades to anything. I don’t know if the rims are killing my car but I got them from my brother who passed for free. The muffler rusted off so I had to replace it and shortly after my mechanic retired. The new one told me I needed a flex pipe. Also there is a worn bushing and I think a sway bar link needs replacing. I think that’s the part. they said they can’t do an alignment without it. The leaking transmission lines and fuel economy way down. Yearly trip to LI NY I used to have 3/8 of a tank left now it’s almost gone.
what I can do to maintain my car. So that I can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of it?
Just follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual and you should be good.
What do you think of this car?
Please post this question as a new topic for better visibility.
Well the Toyota Max excellent vehicles basically use synthetic oil in the engine I would change the oil every 5,000 miles and just maintain it regularly change the coolant once every 10 years or 150,000 miles. And stay away from American cars because of their crap
Thank you for answering. So basically everything I’ve learned from watching your channel. 😂
I have a 2004 Prius. 300K+ miles. At the very least, do the stuff in the owners manual maintenance schedule and you should be fine. That’s basically what I did to get it to last this long.
And it won’t hurt to change oil every 5K instead of 10K.
Do you use synthetic or conventional oil? My local Toyota dealership service department has been giving me conflicting advice on what to use
I prefer synthetic 0W-20 but have used conventional 5W-30 in a pinch. My particular engine is rated to use both weights of oil.
I think yours might be 0W-16 or 0W-20 GF6 oil which usually come in synthetic TMK. Check the manual for verification.
I think the dealer will push whatever oil they have in hand, not necessarily what is best.
Avoid the dealer at all costs.
