I'm looking at a 2019 VW Jetta SE/SEL trims and I remember that typically, these cars aren't too reliable. Just wondering, did they change over the years? Is it ok to buy a vw now and expect to get out like 150k miles with minimal maintenance?
Well, … reliable Vee-Dubs were in the past: … at least the ones that passed through may hands: ‘83 Jetta, ‘80 Vanagon. Today, … they are all junk, … sophisticated junk, mind you! Unreliable, expensive, … expensive to fix. More you fix them, more unreliable they become. Skip them, I say, … skip them all!

Would you say a 1991 vw gli would still be reliable today? I'm looking at a used one from a guy
It appears that as long as VWs were made in Western Germany, one could tolerate them, . … but all produced outside were pretty crappy, … and became crappier as time progressed. Westmoreland produced VW were, perhaps, the worst out of a bunch!
Anyway, … ‘91? Don’t know much about that one, … I did, however, had some exposure to a '96, … not very good at all - it was owned by a relative.
