I’m looking at getting a new truck and I was looking at either a new Nissan frontier or Tacoma, i test drove a frontier and liked it but i know it’s a direct injection motor and a newly designed truck so there’s not a lot of data on long term reliability, I want this truck to last me for the next 300k miles at least, thoughts?
I'd go with the Tacoma. I live in the Deep South where trucks are everywhere. I rarely see any new Frontier. Maybe once a season. But Tacomas from all ages are everywhere.
There’s been some positive opinions about the frontier, but they sell so few it would be hard to get good data, pro or con. But their dealer support is pretty sketchy, so if you did have a problem, it could quickly become a nightmare.
Unless your local Nissan dealer has a stellar reputation and long history, I’d get a tacoma (just be aware that with the new model coming out, supplies of the current model are dwindling).
Do not get the new Frontier: see below, avoid 2020 model year and newer.
