bad idler pulley?

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 2.4 liter with 157,000 miles. it doesn’t burn a drop of oil, transmission is in great shape, no codes. But whenever the car is under load or acceleration I hear a bearing noise over 3500-4000 rpm. I also hear the noise if i’m coasting and i press the gas, and the noise happens for a brief few seconds until i let off the throttle. My mechanic said it is the idler pulley, but I also had the serpentine belt tensioner replaced a few months ago. I have also had a random misfire code p0300 before, but haven’t had one since. Sometimes there is a little bit of a rough idle but nothing else is wrong. Could it be my idler pulley is starting to go out?

It's easy enough to find out. Take the belt off and spin the idler pulley. It should glide smoothly and not hang up at all. If it hangs up or binds, replace it with an OEM one.
