What are some common symptoms of a bad CVT transmission? I have a 2014 Subaru Forester with a CVT that has 60k and I haven’t had any problems so far. If and when it starts going out, what are some signs I should look out for?
The Linetronic is relatively solid. Don’t expect issues until 120,000 as long as you drive and maintain it properly (I’d change the oil every 25k-30k miles. As a side note, id also replace the differential oil cause they can wear out too)
(never let your wheels spin if you’re stuck or let accelerate too roughly - basically don’t cause belt slippage inside the tranny)
on a Subaru? Stuttering, noises, vibrations are all signs of the transmission starting to wear.
Here’s a very rough example:

Slipping, jerking, leaking, strange noises.
Aside from not abusing it, the best thing you can do to prolong the life of the CVT is to change the fluid regularly. You're already a bit beyond the point where it should be done.
The problem is dealers don't want to do it until 100K miles. You would either need to change the fluid yourself or find a mechanic willing to do it. (The procedure is involved.) Also you'd need to be 100% certain the correct fluid is used.
Here's a DIY procedure for the fluid change:
