Basic Battery life question

Not sure why I can’t find this info very easily through a Google search, but I’m wondering how long my vehicle battery will last before needing to be fully replaced if I use it a lot for charging my phone and laptop. I’m gonna living out of my car and thinking about getting a power storage instead of using my vehicles battery of it will shorten its lifespan. I know the alternator rechargers the battery, but doesn’t each battery have a certain amount and balance of chemical acids that are used up through time? Totally new to vehicle mechanics. Exciting to learn about all this 🙂 thanks!

Thank you! Will do that next time.

how long my vehicle battery will last

it depends on the battery and vehicle.

Very roughly 3-5 years. The lead plates inside fall apart.

I use it a lot for charging my phone

your phone is a like drop in a swimming pool

and laptop.

laptops can be more power hungry. I would not charge a laptop without the engine running. Car batteries are designed to start the car, then recharge immediately after, and that's it. Not running appliances , and not deep discharging (like you do with a phone). It will drastically shorten its life.

Sell your laptop, don't spend money on fancy phones and gadgets. Buy a shovel or lawnmower so you can work and not have to live in a car. 🙂

Your last paragraph advice is the best ever.

I have seen some people that want to live out of their car.

Living out of ones car is such a thing for this generation.

What makes you think I don’t make money? I’m doing this to experience more of the world. Unless you want to stay in one place for too long and not grow in wisdom and life experience. To each there own. I enjoy car living I have a good setup and it beats the Cost of living in Southern California. I’m on my way to North Dakota soon to live with a buddy for a little while. Enjoy pushing your lawnmower while I invest in digital skills and make enough money to go see the whole world. Bless.

It’s a generational thing. Older generations will hear about living in a car, and say “WTF?”, and younger generations will say, “how cool”.

I'm a skilled tradesperson and I have "digital skills" as well (they're not as fun). I love to travel and have seen many countries around the world. When I do so, I can afford accommodations and a rental vehicle. The only time I "live" out of my vehicle is when I go spend time in our vast wilderness. Sometimes for weeks at a time for pleasure or mountaineering trips, so I have a well equipped overlander for that. Being so close to the US border, I visit there often to explore. But I also have a home to return to.

No, Kaizen, you couldn't be more wrong about it being a generational thing. My generation understands "seeing the world to gain wisdom and life experience" a lot better than youngsters today. My father transplanted the whole family to a new continent in his 20's. He goes to see a new country every year (until the present restrictions), and he doesn't just sit in an all inclusive hotel. He sees the WHOLE country, and the tops of the volcanoes etc. My grandfather, a war time pilot, spent his most of his young life travelling all over the Eurasian continent.

Your question was vague, and it sounded to me like you wanted to be bum (we have a lot of messy car bums in our city). Anyway, good luck on your trip.
