Will a bigger capacity battery last longer?

  1. Hey Scotty, just had a question about my battery. I have a 99 Chevy Silverado with 335,000 miles on it. And I usually get exactly 3 yrs out of a battery. I was wondering, should/can I install a bigger battery so it can handle all the systems I have on my truck better? I have a subwoofer and 6 lightbars plus some internal lights as well that i run. Thanks!

the battery is used for one thing... starting the vehicle.  Your stereo and lights are run by the alternator.

Unless you're using those things with engine shut off, which is bad idea. The battery isn't designed for that. If you want offline power then consider a second battery.

Battery longevity depends on things like the build quality, and the climate you live in. Cheap batteries from Walmart , Costco and the like don't last long. OEM batteries last much longer. You might also want to get your alternator checked to make sure it's charging properly.

Interesting. I had heard from different places, including Scotty, that both the battery and alternator are used to power the electronics of a vehicle. Maybe they meant modern cars. 🤔

Modern cars are the same. I think you misunderstood but if you link the video I'll take a look at it.

A faulty battery will drag down the system though.

A stronger battery or even like an optima would probably be a good idea with all the added electronics

It should help.
