Battery won’t charge

My father's 1998 V6 Camry won’t charge its battery we first thought it was the battery so we got it replaced and it ran fine for awhile then the battery light showed up again so we try getting a new alternator we got it replaced but the car still died I’m now assuming it has something to do with the wires I’m thinking I’m about sanding them down but I was wondering if there is any other reason why the battery won’t charge.

The first thing to do is to test the alternator. There are relatively inexpensive battery/alternator testers, such as the ArtiBattery 101, which Scotty uses. It will test the battery and alternator.

You also want to make sure there's no corrosion near the battery terminals or clamps. And make sure the clamps aren't loose.

You're also well advised to look at the wiring harnesses (these can be tested) attached to the battery clamps. Check for broken and split wires, after you've tested for power and ground.

Check the drive belt as well.

Good luck.

I definitely try that but is there any other possibilities that could cause the battery not to charge.

Did you buy a brand new alternator or a rebuilt one?

If you bought a brand new alternator, I’d check/replace the wiring.

Yeah I got a new alternator I was thinking the same but I checked my my multi meter and it said that it was charging fine but well it died so it’s not. is there possibly a fuse that could need replacing and should I replace the wire or just sand down the terminals

Absolutely, check all the fuses & relays & clean all your terminals. If it still does it, look at the wiring next.

@geriscan has given excellent advice, too.

Find the fuse and check for power and ground. The only other possible problem is a defective ECU ($$$$).

Alright thanks hopefully I can get this car fixed

What is the battery voltage with the engine running?
