Why does Scotty remove engine covers

Hi Scotty. New member here. Love watching your videos and for the most part I agree with what you cover. There is one thing I question, though. Why the hatred for what you refer to as 'beauty covers' and consistently throwing them off to the side on the lawn? While they appear to have no useful purpose, they were designed to quell the noise that modern injectors emit. Injectors are inherently noisy with an awful clackity sound. Every beauty cover has sound proof insulation under it to help stop this noise from getting into the car and ultimately make the engine (and car) quieter. These cover do provide a useful service even if they do seem unnecessary. The argument that they hold excessive heat in the engine bay is as ludicrous as the closed hood holding the heat in as well.

  1. Scotty is a mechanic. Covers get in the way of his work
  2. They do not significantly reduce noise. There are many things louder than injectors.
  3. It's a personal choice. We don't all have to do the same thing. You can keep your cover, and Scotty can remove his and we can all still be happy.

Not really. A lot of air flows through the grill, upwards from lower scoop, and also from the fans.

I'm sure if he works on a car he puts the cover back on when he's done. The beauty covers are just that, for vanity, zero functionality. The hood and the rest of the cowlings and panels are wind tunnel tested by engineers under the assumption that the car will be moving. You may see cops idling somewhere with their hoods popped but they are just sitting there eating donuts with the A/C on.

I've never owned a car with an engine "beauty cover" and have not experienced any "awful clackity sound" in them. For that matter I have not noticed anything like that when riding in newer cars that lack such engine covers, such as Subarus. As far as I can see they serve no useful purpose and if I ever own a car new enough to be equipped with one of those ridiculous things I would not hesitate to toss it out.

AMC aye? Worked in Kenosha building the Gremlins and Hornets, Dept. 836.

Cool. I had a '75 Hornet Sportabout until just a few years ago. (Tinworm finally took it out.) Maybe you had a hand in building it!

Chill out.

.

On customer cars, Scotty puts them back on after he is done.  Each person is entitled to their opinions about those beauty covers.  You can keep yours on, Scotty can keep his off on his own cars, and for myself I have a mix of cars with and without them.

.

On my performance cars, I like to look at the glorious V8 under the hood and was glad it didn’t come with a beauty cover.  On my truck, I just leave it in place.

.

To each their own.

I think Scotty is hilarious for removing and tossing the beauty covers. It’s his bit. It’s funny. He has a good sense of humor.

On my BMW, I kept the stupid beauty cover on. But one of my BMW mechanics, in the exact same car that he has, he took the stupid beauty cover off.

C’est la vie.
