Hey Scotty, a deer did in my 2006 Tundra with the 4.7L V8, loved the truck, was super reliable, and I'm in the (currently terrible) market for a new pickup. Looking at getting another 1st gen Tundra with the engine, but wanted to ask if you have any recommendations for a similarly priced truck that is at least nearly as reliable. Thanks!

I would personally suggest, either Ford F-150 and/or Nissan Frontier/Titan. Both of those are reliable forms of transportation. The reason why a Nissan Frontier is recommended is because they have a strong name for reliability/durability as well as the Tacoma. Though the difference with the Nissan Frontier’s is that they don’t have that atrocious Jatco CVT Transmission. They have the 5spd w/OD and have a proven record of reliability. I’ve seen Nissan *Frontiers* have ~300K miles and still running like a clock. The Ford F-150 well what can I say? It’s a ford and if you live in America, we’ll parts are cheap and easily accessible for Ford. I’ve seen ford f-150’s with well over 250K miles. They are strong built machines ( hint get the V8 don’t get the Ecoboost engines ). The main purpose is just make sure whatever truck you buy has been well maintained. Mileage doesn’t mean much if it’s been extremely taken care of to a certain extent. Though those three trucks I’ve seen are solid reliable beast and should provide you outstanding reliability. Just make sure you get it checked out by a independent or trusted mechanic before buying. Good Luck!

Kind Regards,

Nathaniel J.
