I plan on buying a new Ford F350 to tow a 5th wheel RV weighing no more than 16k lbs. My goal is to make this my last truck I will ever need, I'm 62. Probably lots of towing miles the first 8 years, then less towing miles after that. I'm guessing 20k miles a year or less. Which Ford engine should I buy for the best reliability? The 7.3l gas or the 6.7l diesel.
6.7L diesel, no question.
The motors used in those trucks are fine; I would go with the Godzilla 7.3 gas. The problem is that the F350 with those engines use the 10-speed transmission which has issues. I've heard that the 2022 models are suppose to have improvements but I doubt it with this chip shortage. If you need a new truck now, lease it.
Large gasoline engines tend to turn into gas stations on their own. That's why big trucks use diesel.
