Does the Toyota 2AZ-FE burn oil?

I have a 2014 Scion xB automatic with 81K miles. It has the 2AZ-FE engine. Were the earlier oil consumption problems from 2008-2009 remedied?

Yes, it was.

Thanks. Do you know starting with what model year that was no longer an issue?

2009 was the last year that had some issues, although not as much as 2007 though.

Should I assume that ALL 08-09 xB's have this issue?

That's likely unless it was fixed by Toyota and you can see the proof.

Most importantly they fixed the issue where the engine would strip the threads for the engine head bolts.

Pretty much all of those engines with the improved head bolts have oil consumption - but by 2014, from what I know, it wasn’t as catastrophic as earlier models.

It has a very thin timing chain known for stretching, engine cooling system to be insufficient (fails to cool internal hot spots) and more…

it’s not a bad engine, you just have to treat it well for it to last. With proper maintenance 250k+ miles is possible.
