Is there a way to tell if the TSB for the 2AZ-FE engine was performed?

Hello,

Last month, I purchased a 2008 Toyota Solara with the 2AZ-FE engine for my daughter. I didn't know about the oil consumption problems with these engines when I purchased the vehicle. It only has 53K miles and is in immaculate condition. Being a Toyota, I thought it would be a great first car for my daughter. After purchasing the vehicle, I learned about the oil consumption issue so I called the local Toyota dealer to find out if they knew if the TSB to correct the oil consumption issue had been completed on the vehicle but they said that records for that don't go back that far.

Do you know if there is a way to tell if the TSB has been completed? When one of our Hondas had a recall, they changed the dipstick to show that the service was completed.

Thank you!

Toyota keeps records

I called our local Toyota dealer and they said that they wouldn't have a record of that since the car was from California and we live in Illinois. I may track down the original dealer. Thanks!

I would have called Toyota USA. Dealerships are useless.

Does it burn oil?

Doesn't look like it but she has only put on about 1k miles since we bought it.

Keep an eye on it. If it does not burn oil, or at least not much (a quart or less in 5000 miles) then you don't have to worry about it. (The car is 16 years old so you need to make some allowance for wear.)

Will do and thanks for your help!

Thanks for the information. I read the TSB about replacing the pistons but I didn't see the oil consumption test before. There are pink marks in various components of the engine including the dipstick so maybe at least the consumption test was performed. Thanks again!
