Hello, I'm new here. Thanks for the great videos! I know you don't think much of Chryslers--I'm not a great fan either, but I needed a car and got this one cheap. I have a 2000 Chrysler Sebring Convertible that I got for $650 bucks. It looks and runs great (for now), only needed a wheel bearing, battery and tire, and has only 128,000 on it. It has no OBDII codes showing and the engine and tranny are in great shape. I don't think the timing belt/water pump has never been changed on this thing, so I need to do it. Do you have a recommended brand of belt and water pump? I don't want this to fail, and I don't want to have to go back and do it again, so I don't mind paying for a better part. You may have covered this previously; if so would you please tell me where to look? {black} I'm just a poor schmuck that has to fix our family cars, not a dealer.
Thanks,
Tom Barefoot, Loyalton, CA
Personally I like to use OEM belts and pumps, But also Continental (ContiTech) are pretty nice.
I am sure that the advise from @Dan and @Kaizen is trustworthy. I would like to mention that Gates makes good belts but I have learned on this forum that they went "Chinese" on their water pumps and now have problems with the poor quality bearings wearing out. I had considered the Gates timing belt with water pump kit for my Toyota but decided to go with Aisin after getting advice here.
I’m partial to the Japanese company Aisin, if they have a timing belt and water pump kit for your car. I’ve used them in the past, and so far so good.
My next choice would be SKF, not necessarily for the belts, but for the bearings on the water pump and the timing belt. I have never used them, but they always captivated me as a second choice. I would guess though that their belts are good too.
I really can’t say much about Continental. I’ve used their tires in the past, but never their belts. I haven’t heard anything bad about them. But I can’t rave about them either.
